The number 108 has sacred significance: 108 earthly desires, 108 human feelings, 108 delusions, and 108 beads in a traditional mala. That sacred significance led the authors to choose that number of poems to celebrate the heart, the soul, and create a shift of consciousness. The poems found in Mala of the Heart were all written before 1900 by saints and mystics. They are short and superb, like delicious pieces of a perfect meal. This is a gorgeous collection, fine and brilliant. ~reviewed by: Lisa Mc Sherry Editor: Ravi Nathwani & Kate Vogt New World Press, 2010 pp. 130, $17.00 |
