Sex is something that many Pagans long to use in their spiritual and magickal practice, but many don’t know how to begin. Thankfully, the Pagan Portals series comes to the rescue with Sacred Sex and Magick.
The authors point out quite early on that of course, all magickal work should be done with the consent of those being healed, but that sex magick is extremely powerful and reliable. It would be normal for many, especially those outside Pagan communities or new to a Pagan spiritual path, to look at sex magick as somehow taboo. But they assert that it can be used by both individuals and by consenting adults, provided all parties communicate well and agree on the magickal intent.
Chakras are a big part of sex magick, and the authors talk about combining sacred sexuality with the various chakras throughout the book, and one entire chapter is dedicated to recognizing them in spiritual sexual practices.
I especially liked “Our Best Advice”, the final chapter of the book, which for me should actually have been the first. The group summed up very well, but if that had been used to lay the groundwork for the book I think it would have worked out better. This is where the authors describe some of the ethics of sacred sexuality, and while I may disagree with them on its placement in the book, I’m very glad it’s present.
Finally, please note: Sacred Sex and Magick is a book by the Web PATH Center, a Pagan church in New York, and the book itself has 18 different contributors.
