Traditional Witchcraft has also been described as the Crooked Path. Author Keldon writes that Traditional Witchcraft is an umbrella term that covers a variety of non-wiccan forms of witchcraft and folklore intuitive based path. His latest book is a user-friendly beginner’s guide to those interested in the Traditional Witchcraft path. As the reader journeys thru the book, the main point stressed is that there is no right or wrong way to practice. The book is merely a general roadmap that the reader can follow of deviate to their own path that feels right.

In Part one of the book, the author reviews what Traditional Witchcraft is as well as comparing it to Wicca. While there is debate between the differences of the two, it comes down to the specific rituals performed, magical tools, coven structure etc. There are countless books on Wicca for those interested in exploring that path, but for those looking to seek information on the later, The Crooked Path is a welcomed source. Part two includes exercise for visualizations, raising power, creating a broomstick, charm bottles, folkloric spells and more. The exercises all mention the purpose, location, time and tools needed. These spellcraft exercises are well written and easy to understand for working with magic.

Once the reader has an understanding of the rituals and spellcraft, they can then move into section three that dives into working with the Otherworld, and the spirit world. The author explains the various types of spirits witches work with as well as the Witch Mother and With Father (also called the Goddess and the God). There are a couple of great exercises in this section for the reader to connect with them and begin their own personal relationships. The section also goes over working with Ancestors, Familiars and Fetches along with exercises and appropriate offerings.

Part four is all about working with the natural landscape. This was my favorite section. I am an avid gardener and love spending time outdoors watching the local birds, squirrels and rabbits run around. I feel most connected when planting my garden and getting my hands in the soil. The book offers some various ways to engage with the land from meeting the fae, communing with plants, watching the wildlife and more.
The final section of the book is a reflection on the Crooked Path. The author helps the reader to consider how they want to proceed, daily practices, whether to work in a coven or solitary, and offering a dedication ritual.

Again I really loved this book and am so happy to see a comprehensive guide for those seeking the path of Traditional Witchcraft. Kelden gives the reader a guide to start but it is up to the reader to find their own authentic path. I highly recommend this book for your magical shelves!
