It can be tricky to inform the listener of the inspiration for a piece while supporting it musically . . . A Delicate Balance indeed.
Artist Lisa Downing is technically excellent. This is her 3rd album (I gather from reading the liner notes) and her ability shows as she wrote a collection of songs based on her life, and the addition of her son into it. Her music is quite good, evoking a wide variety of emotional states within its arrangements and stylization. “The Bedtime Song” is a particular favorite, endearing and lovely. It is a dramatic contrast to the anger and fear of “Lost.”
I found this an interesting album, and recommend it for those who enjoy piano music.
